Point-by-Point Femtosecond Laser Inscription of Bragg Gratings In High NA (>0.4) Germania-Doped Optical Fibre
Using point-by-point femtosecond laser inscription, a fibre Bragg grating (FBG) was written in a high NA germania-doped fibre. Thermal tests demonstrated that the FBG could withstand temperatures up to 800°C without significant effects on reflectivity. OCIS codes: (060.3735) Fibre Bragg gratings; (320.2250) Femtosecond phenomena
متن کامل<Edited by Milan Brandt and Erol Harvey> POINT BY POINT FEMTOSECOND LASER INSCRIPTION OF FIBRE AND WAVEGUIDE BRAGG GRATINGS FOR PHOTONIC DEVICE FABRICATION
We present a flexible and rapid method for the production of Bragg gratings in a range of optical waveguides such as optical fibres and direct laser-written waveguides in bulk media. Using a low repetition rate (1 kHz) femtosecond laser, Bragg grating structures can be written in a point-by-point fashion (where each laser pulse inscribes one period of the Bragg structure) in both passive and ac...
متن کاملPart 11: Fibre Bragg Grating type sensors in composites
Introduction Recent studies have shown that Fibre Bragg Gratings are well suited to studying the mechanical behaviour of composites [1]. A Fibre Bragg Grating is a small segment of optical fibre with a core of germanium doped silica which gives a periodic and permanent perturbation of the refractive index. An FBG acts like a selective wavelength mirror, reflecting a particular wavelength (Fig. ...
متن کاملA High-Temperature Fiber Sensor Using a Low Cost Interrogation Scheme
Regenerated Fibre Bragg Gratings have the potential for high-temperature monitoring. In this paper, the inscription of Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBGs) and the later regeneration process to obtain Regenerated Fiber Bragg Gratings (RFBGs) in high-birefringence optical fiber is reported. The obtained RFBGs show two Bragg resonances corresponding to the slow and fast axis that are characterized in temp...
متن کاملStrain Measurements of Composite Laminates with Embedded Fibre Bragg Gratings: Criticism and Opportunities for Research
Embedded optical fibre sensors are considered for structural health monitoring purposes in numerous applications. In fibre reinforced plastics, embedded fibre Bragg gratings are found to be one of the most popular and reliable solutions for strain monitoring. Despite of their growing popularity, users should keep in mind their shortcomings, many of which are associated with the embedding proces...
